Open Dental Remote Access
Open Dental Remote Access
This article outlines how to remotely access Open Dental. This setup requires all Open Dental databases to be on the same version of Open Dental. If you receive a version mismatch error, please submit an IT helpdesk ticket.
Step 1: Install Open Dental
- The current Lightwave standard version (v. 24.4.53 as of 6/23/2025) of Open Dental must be installed on your computer. This step will be completed by IT. If missed or any application errors, please place a support ticket https://help.lightwavedental.com

- To confirm your version
- Click "Start" and type "CMD" and launch "Command Prompt"

- Copy the following command and paste into the "Command Prompt" and hit enter.
- wmic /node:"localhost" product where "Vendor like '%Open Dental%'" get Name, Version
- The results should look similar to below. If version is incorrect, please place a support ticket at https://help.lightwavedental.com
Step 2: Launch Open Dental and enter the practice URI
Step 3: Log into Open Dental with your credentials for that office and hit "OK"

Step 4: Open Dental should launch and load your view
